One of the glaring oddities when taking a look at the Cardinals stats, is the leadoff hitter.
As a team, St. Louis has an on base percentage of .336 in the leadoff position. The number 1 spot ranks a dismal sixth in the batting order, considering the main goal of the leadoff man is to reach first base. Not surprisingly, the .336 OBP ranks 10th in the National League. Even the Redbirds’ eighth spot has a .318 OBP.
On a positive note, huge congrats to the Cardinals for beating Bud Norris. The two runs they managed before Matt Holliday’s three-run homer were impressive enough.
