Vernon Wells will earn [probably] $269,120 per hit...
That’s a lot. But the Angels still have 55 games left, so I’m sure he will turn it around to make the contract worth it. Also, Wells can opt out of his contract that runs through 2014 if he so desires. We’ll keep you posted. This would have been about Bobby Bonilla, but I don’t know how to divide $1.2 million by zero.

He gone!
Colby Rasmus has reportedly been traded to the Blue Jays, along with P. J. Walters, one-pitch wonder Trever Miller and Brian Tallet for: SP Edwin Jackson, RP Marc Rzepczynski, RP Octavio Dotel (he’s still around?) and OF Corey Patterson (I’m not liking this trend of former Cubs) More soon…

The luxury of Cardinals starting pitching
The recent six-game stretch for the Redbirds has refueled Pujols - he’s hitting .333 with three homers - and has seemed to put in that Pujols ‘zone’ we’ve all been waiting for. But the starting pitching has been the biggest reason for the five wins in six days as Cardinals starters have combined for 41.1 IP, a 2.41 ERA and a 5-0 record. It’s wonderful when...

Rasmus v. Jay
It’s inevitable. All the talk surrounding Colby Rasmus for the past few years may actually result in an actual trade happening. Maybe. Either way, it’s interesting looking at the comparison between the two young outfielders. Rasmus (24) and Jon Jay (26) are competing for the third outfield spot alongside Matt Holliday and Lance Berkman. 1. Batting Part of the issue of why people...

Why the top of 'The Tenth Inning' haunts me
When Ken Burns’ first made news through the airwaves that he was going to follow up his baseball documentary with ‘The Tenth Inning’, I was just excited to see a new documentary about baseball. I had never actually seen the original. Had no idea what year the second part would start its story. Turns out 1994. That year, I turned six. The Christmas before the season, I unwrapped...

A more realistic Triple Crown
Every year, there is a time when talk of Albert Pujols possibly achieving the Triple Crown. It is a romantic idea, as there hasn’t been a batter to win the Triple Crown since 1967 (1937 for the National League.) While Albert does have an opportunity to make history, there is actually a far better candidate on the Cardinals squad. Adam Wainwright. Yep, the Cardinal ace has a legitimate...

Don't mind Phillips, Johnny Cueto on the other...
Johnny Cueto is an asshole. I understand the animosity towards Brandon Phillips. He spouted off, said some idiotic things. He followed it up by acting like your little brother who always has to have to last word, who pokes you continuously to see how much he can irritate you. He doesn’t do any real harm himself, but will continue to push things to their breaking point. That’s Brandon...

The loss of Ludwick isn't hurting, for now
Ludwick’s trade was a less than popular decision, but the loss can be softened. And it’s not just Jon Jay. The resurgence of a couple of Cardinal bats is breathing life back into the lineup. Here’s a breakdown of Cardinals with 50 plate appearances since the All-Star break. Jon Jay  .373 BA, .449 OBP, 8 2B Yadier Molina .355 BA, .417 OBP, 2 IBB Albert Pujols   .326 BA,...

The Cards and Reds' Tug-of-War
St. Louis pulled ahead of Cincinnati by a half game last night when they finished their four game sweep of the Dodgers. It was the latest chapter in the 2010 NL Central battle, which has been the closest of any this season. Twelve lead changes and five ties have highlighted this season so far, and even that has only happened within the last two months - May 16 specifically. Neither team looks to...

Wainwright only manages six scoreless
Adam Wainwright failed to pitch a complete game shutout - only lasting six innings versus the Dodgers Saturday. He even walked a batter! Supposedly it was hot out - triple digits or something - and that affected Wainwright on the mound. All we know is that Wainwright better get his ERA below two. It’s way above that mark, sitting at 2.02. Also, Wainwright improved to 10-0 at Busch Stadium...

The Kids are Alright
Jon Jay’s 12-game hitting streak is now the longest in the National League - make that 12 games over 47 days - and he has been absolutely clutch at times. Including last night, Jay has three games in his hitting streak where he has just one at-bat to keep it alive. While Jay doesn’t necessarily have quite the power as the previous number 15 lefty, his bat does have a punch. Three...

Carp cruises, stabilizes rotation
Whether it was the week off, wanting revenge against the Dodgers, or just the natural cycle of baseball, Chris Carpenter returned strongly to the mound for the Cardinals’ second half opener. After struggling mightily in his last two outings - who knows if the line drive that hit him was affecting his delivery - Carpenter allowed just four hits in eight innings. Carp picked up his 10th win...

Starting it off right
One of the glaring oddities when taking a look at the Cardinals stats, is the leadoff hitter. As a team, St. Louis has an on base percentage of .336 in the leadoff position. The number 1 spot ranks a dismal sixth in the batting order, considering the main goal of the leadoff man is to reach first base. Not surprisingly, the .336 OBP ranks 10th in the National League. Even the Redbirds’...

Cardinals need to catch a break
We’ve been on a hiatus for a while, and it was due time to make a post. After two heartbreaking losses completed by a series sweep, the Cardinals fail to catch a break as they face off against their bitter nemesis - Bud Norris. His name makes him sound innocent, but he’s not. 4-0. 0.35 ERA. Those are his career numbers against the Cardinals. I’m pretty sure the Astros would...

Bobby Bonilla's long con →
There has been some bemoaning about Matt Holliday’s contract - and more recently every NBA free agent contract - but nothing compares to what the Mets gave, and are still giving, Bobby Bonilla. So, whenever you get furious at a contract, click on this link to feel better. It’ll at least make you smile. Unless you’re a Mets fan.

Alex Steen stays in St. Louis
The Blues offense retained some of their offense firepower today after extending Alex Steen for four more years. “Four years, I’m more than happy,” said Steen, who is vacationing with his wife in Greece. “St. Louis is where I want to be … the Blues really gave me a shot at playing both sides of the game.” Some might few this as a bit reactionary as this past...

Cardinals can cruise into All-Star break
Just 11 games left til the All-Star break, and the Cardinals play seven of those games against NL Central opponents. While that seems to bode well for the Redbirds, as the Central is the weakest division in baseball, the division has given fits to St. Louis this year. The Cardinals are 17-13 against the Central this year - that percentage is worse than their record against the NL East (10-5) or...

AC St. Louis stave off Galaxy for 70', but lose...
It really is no surprise - even with Landon Donovan in NYC - that LA Galaxy finally overwhelmed AC St. Louis in the third round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open. From what we gathered from the Galaxy’s Cover it Live coverage, AC St. Louis started out very aggressive - they were even tied for shots on goal through the first half - but eventually gave way to the MLS team. The person in charge of...

Waino: The forgotten ace
With Ubaldo Jimenez, Stephen Strasburg and even Jaime Garcia dominating headlines, Adam Wainwright has kind gotten lost in the shuffle as far as national attention goes. But, the right-hander may be the best pitcher in the National League through the first three months of play. Waino’s numbers: Innings pitched - 119.1 (2nd) Wins - 11 (2nd) WHIP - 1.02 (3rd) Strikeouts - 114 (3rd) ERA -...

Blues release 2010-11 ticket prices
Want to see Pronger’s return home? Or the Blues take on the Hawks? It’s going to cost much more than, say, a game against the Nashville Predators. If you want to sit behind Halak and see him shut down the Flyers in the opener, it’ll cost you $50 more than sitting in the same seat when the Blues take on the Predators on November 11. Here’s the list of the regular season...

Rams ink rookies except Bradford, Saffold, Onobun
Jerome Murphy and Mardy Gilyard are both now under contract with the Rams, each signing for just over $2 million for four years. Josh Hull, George Selvie and Michael Hoomanawanui all signed as well. Saffold may wrap up negotiations fairly soon, but Bradford’s contract may have to wait until the ownership situation resolves itself.

AC St. Louis face off against LA Galaxy
While the US is gone from the World Cup, soccer in St. Louis has found new life. Seemingly left for dead after the main investors bailed on the team - which left the Athletica in ruins - the past several weeks have been incredible for St. Louis soccer. AC St. Louis was 1-7-1 going into a match with Puerto Rico on June 12, and since then they’ve been a different team June 12. Puerto Rico....

Blues strike first in offseason
The Blues took their goalie matters into their own hands, trading for the Canadians’ Jaroslav Halak. Halak was instrumental in the Canadians’ run in the postseason this year, and the Blues undoubtedly hope the 25-year-old can help them in their own postseason run. In exchange for Halak, the Blues parted ways with prospects Lars Eller and Ian Schultz. Chris Mason had been the...

Rams offseason update
Oshiomogho Atogwe still remains unsigned, but with the lack of teams clamoring for him, odds are he’ll drop his ‘third-highest paid player at his position’ demand. Other quarterbacks are getting first-team reps, including Sam Bradford. Five players have been released: DE Sean Conover, LB Freddie Harris, S Jeromy Jones, CB Cord Parks and DT Ernest Reid. La Russa's lineup tweak proves red hot
La Russa’s latest tweaking of the lineup - moving Ryan Ludwick to the cleanup spot - spelled success for all three involved. Matt Holliday, Albert Pujols and Ludwick teed off on the Mariners’ pitching staff, going a combined 7-11 with three walks and five RBIs.

John Mozeliak is on a mission from God
The consensus opinion from Cardinals fans on the Jeff Suppan deal seems to be disgust. Ignoring Dave Duncan’s track record with veteran pitchers, Cardinal fans may be taking Suppan leave for the Brewers in 2006 a bit personal. Or maybe it’s a cry that Suppan is only a temporary solution - as in not Roy Oswalt. John Smoltz came in last year - although his arrival was two months later...
